Early access

Built for a day of agents, not a demo.

Everything below runs on your Mac today unless it says otherwise. The app and the aster CLI do the same things, so whatever you can click, a script or an agent can run.

Workspaces

One worktree per task, created in one step with your setup scripts, and still there after a restart.

  • Each workspace is a git worktree with its own branch, off the base branch you choose. Fetch first, or check out a branch that already exists.
  • Every project has its own setup and teardown scripts, plus files to copy in, such as .env.local, so a new workspace is ready to run before the agent starts. Scripts that come from the repo need your approval first.
  • Create a workspace and its first agent in one go. A live preview shows problems before you press Create.
  • Pin, rename and archive. No name in mind? You get an adjective-animal one.
  • Panes, tabs and splits are kept per workspace and come back exactly as you left them.

Planned

  • Run scripts per project: your dev server, test watcher or anything you start often, one click away in every workspace.
  • Prompt templates: save the prompts you reuse and start an agent on one in a new workspace, without retyping.
  • Port ranges per workspace, mapped for your project, so several dev servers run side by side without colliding.

Pull requests and stacks

PR, review, CI and stack status for every agent's branch, and merged work cleaned up in one step.

  • Each workspace shows its pull request, review state, checks, mergeability and how far it is ahead or behind.
  • gh stack users see the layers in order, with a mark on the one that needs a restack.
  • When a PR merges, Asterism lists the workspaces you can archive. Only the ones you tick go.
  • A pull request list per project: waiting for your review, yours, all open. Review any of them with an agent in a new workspace, or check one out where you are.
  • Read-only: Asterism looks at GitHub and GitHub Enterprise, and only for the hosts you set up. Tokens live in the macOS Keychain and never reach its database or logs. GitLab and other code hosts are planned.

Usage and cost

What agent work costs per project, workspace and merged pull request, without your prompts going anywhere.

  • Input, output and cache tokens per session, workspace, project and agent, read from Claude Code and Codex transcripts, subagents included.
  • API-equivalent cost at list price, cache savings, and your subscription next to what the same work would cost on API credits.
  • Time agents spent working, and time they spent waiting on you.
  • Merged pull requests and cost per merged PR, so you can tell which work paid off.
  • Only numbers, model names and timestamps are kept. Prompts, replies and tool output are never stored. Prices download once a day; you can turn that off.

A real terminal

Ghostty's terminal engine in a native Mac app, not a terminal drawn in a web page.

  • Panes are libghostty. Your Ghostty config, fonts and keybinds apply. Asterism's light and dark themes set only colours and padding, and one setting gives you your own Ghostty colours back.
  • Typing stays immediate under load: in our tests a keystroke's round trip took 0.2 ms at the median and under 0.75 ms at p99 while five panes were flooding output.
  • Reattach and you get the exact screen back, including full-screen programs, not a replay of scrollback.
  • Paste an image or drop a file and the agent gets its path. OSC 9 and 777 notifications from any program raise a Mac notification.
~/.config/ghostty/config
# Asterism's panes read your Ghostty config as is.
font-family = "JetBrains Mono"
font-size = 13
cursor-style = bar
keybind = cmd+d=new_split:right

# Prefer your own Ghostty colours?
$ aster config set terminal_theme false

Remote machinesPlanned

Agents on a build box or a bigger machine, in the same sidebar, set up with one command.

  • aster remote add <host> installs the Asterism core on the other machine over SSH.
  • Panes attach over a single SSH connection. No ports to open, nothing listening.
  • Lose the network and only the attach drops; the agent keeps running and reattaches to the exact screen.
  • Agent status hooks work the same as on your Mac.

And the small things

  • Notifications, a needs-attention section and a dock badge with the unread count.
  • Switch workspace with ⌘P, everything else with the command palette, ⇧⌘P.
  • Status hooks for Claude Code and Codex, installed with a diff and a backup.
  • Shell integration for zsh, bash, fish and nushell.
  • aster doctor checks the daemon, git, your shell, agents, hooks and worktrees.
  • Updates install only after you say yes; the app runs your agents, so it never updates silently.

Bring your agents together.

Free. Early access builds update themselves and ask before they install.
